Barbara A. Hutchinson MD, PhD, FACC

Barbara A. Hutchinson, MD is a highly regarded Cardiologist and Medical Director at de-novo site Flourish – Bowie, Maryland, with over three decades of experience in cardiovascular medicine and research. She is also the president of Chesapeake Cardiac Care. Hutchinson earned her MD from the University of Maryland and a PhD in Cardiovascular Pharmacology from Howard University, which uniquely qualify her to address complex cardiovascular conditions. She is board-certified in cardiovascular diseases and Sleep Medicine, with expertise in the critical relationship between sleep disorders and heart health. 

Throughout her career, Hutchinson, MD has made significant contributions to research and clinical practice, particularly in hypertension, heart failure, and obesity-related cardiovascular conditions. Her research has focused on advancing treatments for coronary artery disease and metabolic syndrome, which disproportionately affect obese and underserved populations. She is committed to addressing these disparities and has led clinical trials aimed at improving care and outcomes for patients from diverse backgrounds. 

Hutchinson MD’s leadership extends beyond the clinical setting. She has served as Board Chair and President of the Association of Black Cardiologists and continues to advocate for diversity in clinical trials. Her compassionate care, combined with her deep commitment to research and education, has earned her numerous accolades, including the Watkins-Saunders Award from the American Heart Association and recognition among Maryland’s Top 100 Women. She is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a member of the American Academy of Cardiovascular Sleep Medicine, and currently sits on several medical advisory and non-profit boards.
