Atherosclerotic Disease, often referred to as Atherosclerosis, is a condition where plaque—a mix of fat, cholesterol, and other substances—builds up in your arteries. Over time, this buildup can narrow or block your arteries, making it harder for blood to flow to your heart, brain, and other parts of your body. This can lead to serious health problems like heart attacks, strokes, or poor circulation.
Basic Criteria:
- Be 50 years of age or older
- Have a history of Heart Disease OR are at very high risk of developing the condition (due to risk factors such as smoking, older age, high blood pressure requiring medication, and diabetes being managed with medication)
